Welcome to whisky-rating.com!

This site is dedicated to ratings and tasting notes of whisky (and whiskey of course). What makes whisky-rating.com diferent from other sites that have whisky ratings and/or tasting notes is that here all whisky enthusiasts can leave their own votes and notes.

The ultimate goal of this site is to create an online database of rated whisky bottlings to serve as reference for your own evaluations and giving support for your decision which whisky to buy next.

Rating whiskies is often subject to critique. Some common arguments against ratings are:

  • A point rating reflects only the subjective view of a single person and can be biased
  • A point rating without a tasting note is usesless
  • A tasting note without a rating or at least an evaluation is useless
  • Different people may have different views on how a rating of xx points relates to the objective quality of a whisky

whisky-rating.com tries to take on these issues with a statistical approach. The more people rate a whisky, the better the average score will reflect its “true” quality. It is like in a pre-election poll: If you ask only one person what he or she will vote for, you will never be able to deduct the result of the election. But if you ask a thousand people, the poll will approach the true result with only a small margin of error. The more people you ask, the more you approach reality. Sociologists call this phenomenon Wisdom of Crowds.

And in addition to a score based on a hopefully large number of voters, anyone has the option to add their tasting notes. This will make it easier to judge a whisky than just reading one person’s rating and notes.

For more information on how to participate, please refer to the “About” page accessible throught top navigation bar.

I will try to have the site financed by “tasteful” on-topic advertising that I hope nobody with feel overwhelmed by. If you are interested in advertising on this site, please contact me.

If you like the concept, please join and help build up the site. The concept will only work as a community effort, but the work put into it will be rewarded with the most objective evaluations of whiskies available on the internet.
