Blended Scotch Whisky – 40%

My Tasting Notes:

Color: Straw
Nose: Fresh and a bit spirity, citrus, grain, vanilla
Palate: A hint of caramel and nuts joins the aromas from the nose
Finish: Short taste, long spirit
Overall: You can tell that this is very young. Much too young for my taste. It tastes almost like a German Korn. But at least it does not seem to be coloured.

Score: 58/100 – Price Tag $$$$$ – Value for your Money $$$$$

Whyte & Mackay 19yo Old Luxury

My Tasting Notes:

Nose: Quite intense, tea, tobacco, dark chocolate, cassis, a wee bit of smoke
Palate: Dry and slightly sweet, caramel, oriental spices, just a faint fruitiness
Finish: Very long and slightly smoky
Overall: A very richly flavoured sherried blend. The nose is impressive, but the palate could profit from a few more ABV points. This is miles away from the standard supermarket or pub blends. The aged grain whisky has lost all of its roughness and caters for a delicate silky smooth mouthfeel.

The most popular pub blend in Scotland – 40%

My Tasting Notes

Nose: Weak, slightly malty
Palate: Rather harsh grain notes, vanilla, a bit sweet
Finish: Short, fading quickly
Overall: You can taste that this is a young whisky. OK for just sipping, nothing really disturbing, but it’s hard pinning down any noteworthy aromatic components.

Score: 51/100 (just to point out that I don’t quite dislike it) – Price Tag $$$$$ – Value for your Money $$$$$
